Meet a Grad Interview

What is your name? Kiana

Give a little background history of yourself.

My background is, I played many sports growing up. I did gymnastics, T-ball, soccer, basketball, track (2 years) , kickball, softball (6-7 years) and boxing  (2 years). Two sports I currently play are softball and boxing. I have a workout schedule, where I don’t go for the time, I go how many calories I burn. During my workout my goal is to burn 300-500 calories, roughly that takes me about 90 minutes; depending on the time of day. Daily I burn about 2,300 calories per day.

What made you decide to pursue this area of study (i.e. Exercise Science)?

I want to teach clients how to properly use the machine without injuring themselves. Teach them what muscles they are using and what exercise helps activate the muscles. Also help guide and motivate my clients toward reaching their goals.

What made you decide to pursue this interest in the Exercise Science program at ACC?

ACC is less expensive and works well with my schedule.

What was the most challenging/difficult part of the program?

The most challenging was not having enough time to do a full workout with my client. One hour workout with multiple sets/reps is too short. I prefer at least 90 minute workout, so that my client doesn’t feel rushed and want them to feel their muscles activate while working out.

What was the best/most beneficial part of the program?

The most beneficial part of the program is doing more hands on activities with your partner and with the client.

Are you currently employed as a Personal Fitness Trainer?  If so, at what capacity? If not, why not?

Not yet, I am working towards to go get my ACSM certification before I start getting into the personal trainer jobs.

If you had a single piece of advice for someone interested in being a Personal Fitness Trainer, what would it be?

My advice is to enjoy helping your client reaching their goals and be yourself.
