Former Student, Toni Exercise Science department

Toni, give a little background history of yourself.

Former college track and field athlete at Vanderbilt University.  School counselor at Garza Independence High School and Academic Advisor at the University of Texas Athletics.  I also play professional tackle football for the Austin Yellow Jackets Women’s Tackle team.  Aim to coach collegiately one day.

What made you decide to pursue this area of study (i.e. Personal Fitness Training)?

Looking to merge my passions for athletics and counseling into a career working with student-athletes.

What made you to decide to pursue this interest in the Personal Fitness Trainer program at ACC?

Dreams to pursue CSCS certification to work in Strength and Conditioning program at the collegiate level. I also have a desire to coach collegiately – track and field.

What was the most difficult aspect of the program?

Rigor – it requires time management and organization when juggling a full-time career.

What was the best/most beneficial aspect of the program?

Learning all of the technical knowledge necessary to be a solid asset in this industry.

Are you currently employed as a Personal Fitness Trainer?  If so, at what capacity?  If not, why not?

I am currently focusing on merging my counseling career with the fitness world.  Recently, accepted a position with the University of Texas Athletics as Academic Mentor working with the UT football team.

If you had a single piece of advice for someone interested in being a Personal Fitness Trainer, what would it be?

If you want to create healthy lifestyles and live by a creed of being a “better you”, then personal training is for you.  It has equipped me with the ability to create life changes in individuals and it feels good!
