The social work program is part of the ACC Sociology and Social Work Department. Social work is a professional and academic discipline that seeks to enhance the quality of life and well-being of individuals, families, couples, groups, and communities through direct practice (micro social work – case work, counseling, advocacy, etc.) and to effect system-wide change through in-direct practice (macro social work – community organizing, policy, administration, research and teaching). What distinguishes social work from other helping professions is its focus on the person-in-environment model and its strengths-based approach.<\/p>\n

The diverse field of social work includes many types of jobs that all have one thing in common: to enhance the well-being of individuals, groups, and communities with a particular focus on empowering vulnerable populations and promoting social change.<\/p>\n

The Associate of Arts degree in Social Work<\/strong><\/a> provides you with the first two years of social work courses and prepares you to transfer to an institution that grants a baccalaureate degree.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
