The Associate of Arts degree in Social Work at Austin Community College provides a foundation for students interested in the fields of social work, human services, counseling and other related areas. The Associate of Arts (AA) degree offers a basis for positions such as case managers, social work assistants, and community outreach workers. The degree also provides the first two years of a four year curriculum for students intending to transfer into a baccalaureate program to earn a Bachelor of Social Work.

Most social workers have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, but those who are interested in entry-level social work may be able to get a job with an associate’s degree in social work. Most states require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in social work to obtain licensure, and many require a master’s degree in social work to be licensed. To work as a clinical social worker, a master’s of social work (MSW) is required. Check with your state’s licensure requirements for more information.
