AnnieAnnie Marks is a native Austinite and thrilled to be teaching ASL-English interpreting in Austin! In addition to teaching, she currently works as a freelance ASL-English interpreter and is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Interpretation and Translation at Gallaudet University, where she also taught undergraduate interpreting courses for four years. Annie studied Deaf Education at the University of Texas as an undergraduate student and her involvement in the Austin Deaf community and the former DeafACT children’s theatre organization led her to the interpreting profession and graduate studies.

Her teaching experience continues to fuel her curiosity about interpreting pedagogy and research. Annie’s interest in video interpreting stems from her own experiences working as a Video Relay Service interpreter, as well as a passion for integrating technology, research, and practice. Annie is happiest when in water, so she is thrilled to be reunited with Barton Springs!
